ABOUT US

The Society was formed in 1975 and began collecting historical stories and publishing them on mimeograph machine into pamphlets for the public.

In 1976 we reprinted the "History of Lake Huron Shore 1883"

Over the next years we reprinted the 1880 "Birds Eye View" Map of AuSable & Oscoda. Our members researched and printed 2-Cemetery books, 1-Death Records books, 3- Historical Compilation books, 1- Axe Murder Book as well as a 30 minute Historical Video.

In 1999 the Society opened the Historical Museum in downtown Oscoda.

BE PART OF THE FUN

In April of each year we have a Historical Dinner with a great speaker, folk music, door prizes and an auction. A full night of entertainment!

Summer we have an evening Paddle Wheel boat ride on the AuSable River with live folk music and a light summer meal.

We have two Potluck Dinners each year, one in fall and the other in the cold lonely months of winter. And if we can find someone, we have a guest speaker.

We are restoring an old "wagon" found built into the sidewalls of an old garage. We removed it, stripped it back to its original frame of wood, and slid a farm wagon chassis under it. What is it? Your guess is as good as ours at this point. We're calling it our "WHAT'S IT WAGON"

OUR MEETINGS

Public is Welcome to attend, they are held the first Monday of each month.
At 7pm, at the Church of Christ
5726 Cedar Lake Road,
just north of Kmart in Oscoda.

Meetings last about 45 minutes to one hour with refreshments and cookies. We take care of running the Society/Museum business, and then we have time to talk history or just visit.

YOU'D LIKE TO HELP

We are always looking for volunteers to help at the Museum gift shop/greeter, whether it's one or two days a month or just three hours a month.

If you have an historical interest you could work on a new display for the Museum.

You could help us with publicity and planning upcoming events, such as our dinner, boat ride, potlucks, local shows or 4th of July parade. We also plan special presentations in front of the Museum.

You could help restore the "What's it Wagon"

We have several new books in the works and help is needed in the research stages as well as compiling into books.

We have an odd jobs list for the Museum, some small, some large.

Or, whatever you think you could bring to the Society and Museum
